In the darkness a woman's voice.

"I don't care who they are! She's my daughter and she's not going to them!"

Another woman barks back, " I don't give a damn what she is or who she came from. She's been purchased and she ships out tomorrow!"

As hard footsteps on a hard floor fade into the distance, the first woman's voice says softly...

"You will not be one of them."

The darkness is quiet again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sara's eyes blinked open, the harsh light stung until they adjusted. She sat up and looked around trying to figure out where she was.

A bus depot. In a city. A city named New Orleans.

She did not know how she got there, nor how the $10,000 got into her pocket. She knew her name was Sara and she knew she had to keep herself hidden, why she did not know. She had to find help but for some reason knew not to go the the authorities. Something in her mind kept telling her not to let them know she was even alive.

Sara got up and walked out of the depot, through the doors she step into the air of the city. She heard music and saw many unfamiliar yet captivating sights. The faces of the people amused her, so much variety. She watched people pose for pictures in front of buildings and statues. Children laughed and played, adults talked and discussed matters important to themselves. Street performers danced and sung, hoping to finagle a few bucks from their audience. Sara would occasionally bump into people as she wandered, a few would be rude but most offered a friendly "pardon me ma'am" or something similar. When hunger crept into her stomach she stopped at a crowded restaurant called Café du Monde there she was recommended the fresh brewed sweet tea and ate something called a "Beignet", she enjoyed four. As she ate she saw a little girl trip and fall as she played then begin to cry. Her mother rushed over and comforted the agitated child then the two walked away together. It was then that Sara remembered she was alone and needed to find help.

After a few hours of wandering the streets she heard of a man who was said to be a protector of the weak and a guardian of the helpless, a hero. The man was simply called the LINE. Sara knew this was who she was looking for and made her way to where she heard he lived.

Staring back at Roman Bantay was the last thing he expected to be knocking at his door at 2 o'clock in the morning; a short, pretty and well dressed white woman. The LINE was exactly what she expected, so with fear in her eyes Sara explained who she was and her situation. She told him about all she did not know and all she knew she had to avoid. And she told him about how she heard he was a hero, a protector. She begged him to let her stay. She offered to pay him money. Still he reluctantly told her he could not let her stay. Sara suddenly felt strange urge within herself. Pressing herself close to him Sara offered the LINE "other forms" of payment. Shocked at her sudden amorous change, it was at this point that the LINE told her to stop and agreed to let her stay and she could stay for nothing. He knew that if she would offer such things to him she would offer it to others and they may not refuse it like he had. He also sensed all was not normal about the woman. The lack of memory, the unexplained cash, then the sudden mood change. This woman named Sara would need some protecting...
