Wächter (Guardian)
The Wächter is a species of dragon that are bred by the Woodland Elves to be guardians of the Elven Realms. Small in stature but tenacious in battle and loyal to the death, these golden dragons are sometimes even given as gifts to humans whom the elves deem worthy.
In this illustration:
I observed two Wächter patrolling the sky over Groomont Castle. It was explained to me that the older Wächter lets the younger lead, allowing the younger Wächter learn "on the fly".
